Infrastructure Taskforce Objective
Finding barriers and opportunities to complete high-quality broadband infrastructure deployment to all residents and businesses, especially in unserved and underserved communities.
The Infrastructure Taskforce met on May 4, 2022. The meeting included representatives across multiple sectors.
There was an extensive discussion by Taskforce members on the annual California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) workshop where the different programs that are available through the CPUC were shared for supporting the initiatives around infrastructure deployment.
Taskforce members also discussed the preference toward “build” or “joint build” for Middle Mile and Last Mile internet infrastructure projects. Golden State Net explained that if it’s state-designed middle mile open-access fiber build, there will be access points every half a mile, or slightly less than every 2,500 feet, creating a greater ability to connect Last Mile projects more efficiently and cost-effectively to that new Middle Mile network fiber.
